Early predictions suggest Petr Pavel will win presidential runoff

Votes are being counted in the second round of presidential elections to find a successor to President Miloš Zeman, whose second term in office ends on March 8. The two contenders for the top post are retired army general Petr Pavel and billionaire former prime minister Andrej Babiš.

Early predictions suggest that Petr Pavel will win the elections by a large margin.

The candidate elected will be Czechia’s fourth president and the second elected by popular vote.

The result is expected between 3 and 4pm CET.
