e15: Czech banks substantially increased their earnings in 2021
In 2021, domestic banks in the Czech Republic saw their earnings rise to CZK 70 billion, 50 percent more than in the previous year, news site e15.cz wrote on Monday, citing preliminary data from the Czech National Bank.
Aside from record levels of interest among both people and companies for loans, the National Bank’s increased interest rates and unusually regular paybacks from debtors were responsible for the uptick, writes e15.cz. However, the earnings were still CZK 19 billion lower than in pre-pandemic year 2019.
