Documentarian and teacher Karel Vachek dies at 80
Documentary maker and teacher Karel Vachek, one of the most distinctive figures in Czech cinema, has died at the age of 80. Perhaps his best-known film was Elective Affinities, which captured events surrounding the Prague Spring movement in 1986.
As well as directing his own works, Vachek was a legendary professor at the Department of Documentary Film at the FAMU film school, influencing many young filmmakers.
