Demonstration outside venue of EU informal summit
A small demonstration attended by a few dozen people took place on Friday in Hradčany square by Prague Castle, the venue of the EU informal summit currently taking place in Prague. The demonstrators were calling for EU unity and support for Ukraine, and were also demanding the abolition of the veto right of member states, the Czech News Agency reported.
Several different groups were represented among the protestors, including a group carrying a banner reading "Russians against Putin", and members and supporters of the Volt Europa political party, which supports European federalism and joint solutions to European issues such as the covid pandemic and energy prices.
The demonstrators applauded European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as they entered the summit. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda came to greet the demonstrators.
