Defence Ministry honours 39 individuals for fighting Communist dictatorship

Certificates, commemorative decrees and badges for taking part in the so-called “Third Resistance” against Communism were handed over by Defence Minister Jana Černochová to 39 individuals on Monday. Among the recipients were the former Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia Petr Pithart and dissident Karel Havelka.

The certificate is issued by the Ministry of Defense on the basis of the law on resistance against communism. The Ministry makes its decision on who to honour based on documents mainly from the Security Services Archive (ABS), supplemented by testimonies of witnesses to the events.

Thus far, the certificate has been issued to more than 2,099 people.
