Debut novel by Miroslav Halučo wins Magnersia Litera award

Letnice (Whitsun), the debut novel by Miroslav Hlaučo, has won the main Book of the Year prize at the Magnesia Litera awards. The novel with strong elements of magical realism tells the story of the inhabitants of a city cut off from civilization.

Hlaučo, who published his first book at the age of 56, also won the Magnesia Litera for Debut of the Year. The prize for best prose work of 2024 went to Jan Antonín Pitínský for his novel Domácí potřeby (Household goods).

Prizes in several other categories were also handed out in the 24th edition of the Magnesia Litera awards in Prague on Thursday evening.
