Daily increase in new Covid cases crosses 4,000 mark

The Czech Republic has seen another steep rise in Covid cases with laboratories registering 4,224 new cases on Friday, double the number registered on the same day last week.

The number of people hospitalized with Covid is also rising and some hospitals have announced they are on the brink of restricting elective procedures so as to increase capacity for Covid patients.

The number of Covid-related deaths reached 62 in the past seven days, which is 18 more than in the whole of September.

The Health Ministry reports that interest in inoculation has started to rise among the unvaccinated segment of the population. It is also urging high-risk groups of the population to get a booster shot. Sixty percent of Czechs have primary vaccination against Covid.
