The Czech Republic's light truck producer Daewoo Avia is facing the threat of losing a major foreign customer, the Russian bus producer Golaz, which failed to renew a contract with Avia after three weeks of talks in late March. According to the Czech daily Hospodarske noviny, Golaz was supposed to buy some 170 Avia chassis for its buses this year. Golaz is trying to negotiate a cheaper price, Viktor Zornikov of Golaz told the daily. However, Daewoo Avia spokesman Yong-Khi Choi told the paper the company is not about to lower its prices. Daewoo Avia increased exports by 46 per cent to 323 light trucks in the first quarter of the year. However, sales on the domestic market fell 6 per cent year-on-year to 162 vehicles. The company is seeking to export 900 lorries this year. 550 of them should find customers in Western Europe where Avia was able to sell only a few dozen units last year.
