Czechs summon Iranian ambassador over Radio Farda threat

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Iranian ambassador to Prague after Tehran placed Radio Farda, which is based in the city, on a list of military targets. The station is operated by the US-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka said on Thursday that the meeting with the Iranian diplomat would take place at the soonest possible date and would be at the level of director of the Middle East section at the ministry.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Radio Farda had long provided Iranians with independent news coverage in situations where the country’s regime restricts internet access, censors information and suppresses freedom of speech.
