Czechs mark 70th anniversary of death of Milada Horáková

Czechs are marking 70th anniversary of the death of Milada Horáková, a democratic opposition leader who was sentenced and executed in a communist show trial on June 27, 1950.

On June 26, the day before the anniversary of her execution, recordings from the trial will be transmitted by sirens and messages in Prague metro, as part of the civic initiative called Milada 70: Murdered by Communists.

Banners with a portrait of Milada Horáková and the caption Murdered by Communists were hung on important buildings in Prague, including the National Museum, Rudolfinum concert hall, the National Gallery’s Trade Fair Palace or Charles University’s Faculty of Law, where Milada Horáková studied.

Commemorative events will also take place at a symbolic grave of the politician at Prague’s Vyšehrad cemetery and in many other places around the country.
