Czechs beat Germany to reach World Championships semi-final in ice hockey

The Czech National Ice Hockey Team beat Germany 4:1 on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Goals by David Pastrňák, Roman Červenka and David Krejčí placed the Czechs in a comfortable 3:0 lead going into the last third of the game. Moritz Seider managed to lower the lead in the 54th minute, but it was not to be. Forward Jiří Smejkal scored the last goal of the game in the 59th minute into the empty net.

The victory means that the Czech team is now in the semi-finals, where it will face either Canada, Slovakia, Switzerland or the USA.
