Czechoslovak Legionary Association march marks 100th anniversary of its foundation

Hundreds of people took part in a parade through the centre of Prague marking the 100th anniversary of the Czechoslovak Legionary Association (Československá obec legionářská).

Among those taking part are members of the association, war veterans as well as the legionaries’ descendants. The march, which started on Wenceslas Square, culminated with a commemorative even at the National Monument at Vítkov Hill.

The Association, which was officially founded in May 1921, was made up of former legionaries who fought for Czechoslovak independence during World War I. Both of the first two Czechoslovak presidents, T.G. Masark and Edvard Beneš, were also members. Its first public meeting took place in Prague on September 4, 1921.
