Czechia’s oldest Olympic champion, Marie Ďurovičová, dies aged 95
Marie Ďurovičová, who was part of the winning group of Czechoslovak gymnasts at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, has died at the age of 95, the Czech Olympic Committee announced on its website on Thursday. The date of her death is dated to January 4. She was the oldest still living Czech Olympic champion.
A Sokol member, Ďurovičová was 21 when she competed in London as part of the Czechoslovak women’s gymnastics team. She would end her sporting career shortly after 1948, following the Communist crackdown on the Sokol movement. She nevertheless remained an active amateur sportswoman well into her 80s, skiing and playing tennis regularly, the Olympic Committee writes.
