Czechia slips in Europe’s inflation ranking
Inflation in Czechia rose in May, pushing the country down the European rankings, according to an analysis by investment platform Portu published on Tuesday. Out of 41 monitored countries, Czechia had the 24th highest inflation, down from 33rd place in April.
The Czech Statistics Office reported a 2.4% year-on-year rise in consumer prices in May, up from 1.8% in April.
Ukraine had the highest inflation in Europe at 15.1%, followed by Russia at 10.2%. Among EU nations, Romania led with 4.9%. The lowest inflation was in Cyprus, where prices fell by 0.2%, with slight deflation also seen in Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
Among Czechia’s neighbors, only Germany had lower inflation at 2.1%. Austria recorded 3%, Slovakia 3.7%, and Poland 4%.
