Czechia plans to close embassy in Mali and consulate general in Chengdu

Czechia plans to close its embassy in Mali and its consulate general in China’s Chengdu, the Foreign Ministry’s state secretary Radek Rubeš said at a meeting of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee on Thursday.

According to Mr Rubeš, the operation of the offices doesn’t make sense strategically, security-wise or economically. On the contrary, Czech diplomacy is considering setting up a consulate general in Mumbai.

The establishment of the embassy in Mali was related to Czech Army’s participation in the EUTM mission in the African state, which is due to end at the end of this year.
