Czechia insists on EUR 50 million compensation over Poland’s Turów mine
The Czech Republic insists on a compensation of 50 million euros for the damage caused by the expansion of the Turów brown coal mine near the Czech border, the Czech News Agency reported on Saturday, citing a proposal drafted by the Czech Ministry of Environment. Poland has offered the Czech Republic EUR 40 million.
Environment Minister Anna Hubáčková is due to present the proposal to the government on Wednesday. The Czech Republic also demands a ten-year judicial supervision by the Court of Justice of the EU, while the Polish side would agree to two years of supervision.
Czech prime minister Petr Fiala said earlier this week that the government was ready to withdraw its complaint over the Turów lignite mine from the Court of Justice of the European Union in case both parties reach an agreement.
