Czechia contributes to earthquake relief in Burma and Thailand
The Czech Embassy in Rangoon has received Burma's official request for foreign aid following the devastating earthquake. Petr Starý, head of the embassy, told the Czech Radio that the request is under review.
According to the Czech Foreign Ministry, Czech firefighters are on standby but have not yet been called for assistance. According to the ministry’s spokeswoman, Czechia is responding by providing financial aid through the International Red Cross, which operates in Burma.
Czech non-profit organizations, including Diakonie ČCE and Adra, have also launched fundraising drives for earthquake relief in both Burma and Thailand. The organizations, which have been active in the region for years, are currently assessing the situation to determine further assistance needs.
The earthquake, which struck on Friday, has already claimed over 1,000 lives, with more than 2,300 injured, Burmese state media reported on Saturday. The Czech Ministry confirmed that all Czech citizens in the region are safe.
