Czechia confirms discovery of second Omicron case, in Liberec family
A second case of infection with the Omicron coronavirus variant has been confirmed in the Czech Republic – within the family of a woman from Liberec who was the first diagnosed with the highly contagious strain.
Omicron was first identified in in southern Africa. The Liberec woman tested positive for the variant after returning from Namibia by plane. However, no infection has been found in her fellow travellers.
The Czech Republic has imposed travel restrictions on people returning from a number of southern African nations. Travellers who spent more than 12 hours in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia or Mozambique mujst quarantine for 10 days upon arrival.
