Czechia and Slovakia to resume joint government consultations

Czechia and Slovakia will resume joint government consultations, with the next meeting of both cabinets set to take place in Czechia, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Thursday following talks with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš in Bratislava.

The consultations were suspended two years ago by the previous Czech government, which cited differing views on key foreign policy issues.

The announcement came during Babiš’s first official visit to Slovakia since taking office. The visit began with a military honours ceremony at the Slovak Government Office and follows a long-standing tradition of Czech and Slovak leaders making their first foreign trip to the other country.

Later today, the Bratislava-born Czech prime minister is also due to meet Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Parliamentary Speaker Richard Raši.
