Czech women reach Olympics tennis semi-finals

Czech women tennis players could take two medals after reaching the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Markéta Vondroušová made it into the last four in the singles after her opponent in the quarter-finals, Paula Badosa, withdrew after the first set, citing exhaustion. Vondroušová had earlier caused a sensation by knocking out world number two Naomi Osaka.

The doubles pair of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková also reached the semi-finals on Wednesday. They are among the favourites to win gold.
