Czech Television plans to cut 12 percent of workforce by 2030
Public broadcaster Czech Television plans to reduce its workforce by 12 percent between now and 2030, the station’s head Hynek Chudárek announced, citing long-term plans previously approved by the broadcaster’s council.
Czech Television currently employs around 2,900 people. The job cuts are part of a broader cost-saving program under which the public broadcaster aims to save CZK 350 million next year. Chudárek said the aim was to build up reserves and prepare Czech Television for planned changes to funding without having to make abrupt cuts to public-service broadcasting. The savings will affect program production and operating costs, while some investments will also be postponed.
The government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) plans to change the funding model for Czech Television and Czech Radio from licence fees to contributions from the state budget. It is not yet certain when that change, initially planned for 2027, would come into effect.
