The Czech Senate on Friday rejected a law that would almost entirely ban tobacco advertising within two years. The senators opposing the law said they thought the measure was too broad. Instead, they want regulations that mainly protects children and young people. The law, which would prohibit tobacco advertising in the media and public places and bar tobacco firms from sponsoring events, can still pass if the lower chamber of parliament approves it in a simple majority vote. After that, the measure would still need to be approved by President Vaclav Havel.
