Czech Republic sees steep rise in whooping cough cases

The Czech Republic has seen a significant rise in the number of patients with whooping cough, according to the figures released by the National Institute of Public Health. Last year, doctors registered 1,347 cases, which is an increase by 79 percent on the previous year. However, no fatal cases of the disease were recorded in 2019.

Epidemiologists have also warned that in recent years, whooping cough has been increasingly spreading among adult population. Inoculation of children against is compulsory in the Czech Republic, but the protection decreases over time.
