Czech Republic hoping to replace Russia in UN Human Rights Council
The Czech Republic would like to replace Russia as a member of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations. The country’s Foreign Ministry announced on Twitter on Friday that an official candidature request has already been sent.
A total of 47 states sit on the UN’s Human Rights Council, which focuses on the promotion of Human Rights around the world. Russia was kicked out of the Council at the beginning of April after a vote by the General Assembly.
