Czech Radio to scale back news and current affairs during Tuesday strike

Czech Radio (ČRo) will scale back its news and current affairs coverage during Tuesday's strike. Regular programming on a number of national and regional stations will be replaced by music, repeats and archive programmes. Online services will also be limited.

Czech Radio said it would nevertheless maintain basic news coverage and keep the public informed in the event of emergencies.

The one-day strike was called by Veřejnoprávně, an initiative representing employees of Czech Radio and Czech Television, in protest against the governing coalition's plan to transfer public-service media funding to the state budget. The employees warn that the move could threaten the independence of both broadcasters and reduce their funding.
