Czech public figures criticize government's stand on Gaza

More than 300 public figures have signed an open letter to President Petr Pavel, criticizing the government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Spolu) for what they see as a failure to uphold human rights and international law in Gaza.

The letter, drafted by the initiative Mluvme o tom (“Let’s Talk About It”), includes signatories such as former ombudswoman Anna Šabatová and former Czech diplomat to Israel Antonín Hradilek. According to them, Fiala’s cabinet supports Israel’s actions in Gaza despite being aware of serious violations of international law by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. They argue that the Czech government is breaching its legal obligations under both the Genocide Convention and Czech law to prevent genocide.
