Czech public donates unprecedented CZK 1.5 billion to Ukraine

Public collections to help Ukraine have so far raised over CZK 1.5 billion in the Czech Republic, the largest amount ever raised in such a charity drive in this country. Most of this money has been given to the Czech NGO People in Need, though over 40 organisations have organised collections.

In addition the Ukrainian Embassy in Prague has raised almost CZK 500,000, the Czech News Agency said on Monday.

Previously members of the Czech public gave the most – around CZK 1.3 billion – to help the victims of a tornado in Southern Moravia last year.
