Czech Press Photo 2024: winning photo chosen from among 256 photographers and over 4,500 submissions

Winning picture of Czech Press Photo 2024

This year sees the thirtieth-anniversary edition of the prestigious Czech Press Photo competition. The competition’s Photo of the Year was taken by Petr David Josek at last year’s Olympic Games.

From among eight categories, 256 photographers and over 4,500 submitted photos, the winner of the 2024 Czech Press Photo competition’s Photo of the Year is Petr David Josek, who works for Associated Press, and who won with his picture of an Olympic hurdler in Paris last year. Photographic success runs in the family; Mr. Josek’s father, also Petr Josek, won the competition in 1997 with a photo of a swimming dog in flooded Uherské Hradiště.

The different categories for submission, each with their own winning photographer, include ‘reporting’, ‘portrait’, ‘everyday life’, ‘sport’, ‘people in the news’, ‘humans and the environment’, and ‘art and culture’. Following a gala event at the New Building of the National Museum, a selection of the submissions will be on display for the public in the same venue from January 10th to April 23rd.
