Czech president backs Moldova’s EU ambitions

Czech President Petr Pavel, who is on an official visit to Chisinau on Thursday, assured his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu of Czech support for Moldova’s EU bid, offering to share the country’s experience.

Mrs. Sandu thanked Czechia for its help in modernizing Moldova and called it an example of successful EU integration, praising Czech-Moldovan security cooperation. She also said Czech support for Ukraine strengthens both Moldova and Europe.

Moldova’s pro-Western government has accused Russia of meddling in past elections, including vote-buying. Despite this, pro-EU President Sandu won last year’s presidential race, and the country now faces crucial parliamentary elections in the fall.
