Czech police detain 120 migrants since reinstated border controls
Czech police have detained more than 120 migrants and seven smugglers since midnight, when temporary checks were reinstated at the border with Slovakia, head of Foreign Police Milan Majer said on Thursday.
The border controls, announced by Prime Minister Petr Fiala last week, were reintroduced following a sharp increase in illegal migration.
Some 500 police officers and 60 customs officers have been deployed to protect the border, with people only being allowed to pass through 27 official crossing points.
Interior Minister Vít Rakušan has said the move is temporary and will be evaluated in 10 days’ time.
