Czech PM: Russia may attack Ukraine at any moment

The Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, says Europe is on the verge of war and that Russia could attack Ukraine at any moment. Speaking on Czech Television on Sunday, Mr. Fiala said that the chances of a peaceful resolution to the situation, with Russian forces amassed by the country’s border with Ukraine, were diminishing.

The PM said Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had not expected the utterly unified response of countries such as the Czech Republic and its allies.

Mr. Fiala said western states were ready to impose sanctions on Russia if it attacked Ukraine. If this occurs, the Czech Republic will be among the countries most impacted by such a move, he said.
