Czech PM meets with President Macron in Paris

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala was hosted by France’s President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday, where the two leaders discussed the situation related to Russia’s war on Ukraine and the upcoming EU presidency of the Czech Republic, which the country will take over from France next month.

President Macron thanked the Czech Republic for supporting Ukraine and accepting Ukrainian refugees. Mr Fiala said that both he and the French head of state agreed that the exclusive blame for the war lies on the Russian side, which is the aggressor in the conflict, and that it is necessary to continue to support Ukraine.

Energy security and weaning off energy dependency on Russia was discussed as well, with both leaders agreeing that nuclear power and its development is in the strategic interest of the two countries. Prime Minister Fiala called France a “key partner” in this respect.
