Czech PM joins EU summit in Paris to support Ukraine

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala is attending an EU summit in Paris on Thursday, alongside leaders from EU countries, the UK, Canada and Turkey, to discuss further support for Ukraine amid Russia's ongoing aggression. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also present, with discussions focused on a potential peace agreement and the role of a so-called “coalition of the willing” in securing such an agreement.

Prior to leaving for Paris, Prime Minister Petr Fiala emphasized that further arming Ukraine is a priority for Czechia. In his view, strengthening Ukraine’s military is the best guarantee of security, especially in the event of a peace deal with Russia.

The summit, which follows previous meetings in Paris and London, comes just days after the United States announced separate ceasefire agreements with Russia and Ukraine regarding the Black Sea and attacks on energy infrastructure.
