Czech photographer’s meteors picture chosen as NASA's astronomical photo of the day

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Sunday published a photo taken by the Czech photographer Jakub Kuřák as its astronomical photo of the day. Mr. Kuřák told ČTK that he was surprised and pleased that his photo of meteors over a snowy landscape was included in the prestigious selection. He had sent the picture to the NASA database, which has published one photo a day from among thousands of submissions since 1995.

Mr. Kuřák's photo, entitled 'Geminid Meteors over a Snowy Forest', was taken on the night of Friday to Saturday near the southern Polish town of Szklarska Poręba, on the northern side of the Krkonoše Mountains. The photo shows more than twenty meteors, which appear to fly out of the Gemini constellation in the centre of the image.
