Czech holiday makers in Slovenia stranded by floods, but uninjured
The Czech Embassy in Slovenia has no reports of any injuries or deaths of Czech citizens in connection with the floods in the eastern parst of the country, the Czech Foreign Ministry reported. However, some Czechs were stranded in their accommodation facilities and several had to be evacuated by helicopter. According to the ministry, Ambassador Juraj Chmiel is in contact with five Czechs who are stranded by the floods in their holiday resorts, and is providing whatever assistance is needed.
Torrential rain caused a dam to break on the Mura River in the east of the country, necessitating the evacuation of several villages. According to local sources 500 people in the municipality of Dolnja Bistrica, among others, had to leave their homes. More than 200 Czechs are registered in Slovenia according to the ministry’s travel registration system Drozd.
