Czech foreign minister urges Russia to end war with Ukraine

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka (Motorists) told Russia's new ambassador to the Czech Republic, Anna Ponomaryova, that the war against Ukraine must come to an end during their introductory meeting on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on Facebook after the talks, Macinka said attempts to justify Russia's actions would not help end the conflict. He said only concrete steps, including compromises and political will on both sides, could pave the way to peace.

"Nothing changes the fact that Russia is waging a war on Ukrainian territory," he said, adding that he had also condemned Russian attacks on civilians in Ukrainian cities.

Macinka also voiced support for U.S. diplomatic efforts and said the current balance of forces on the battlefield should be used to seek at least a ceasefire.

"Europe is also ready to help find a peaceful solution. It is now up to Russia to clearly demonstrate that it genuinely wants peace," he said.
