Czech FM: Ammunition initiative funded for 2026, future hinges on elections

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský announced on Wednesday that funding has been secured for the Czech ammunition initiative through 2026. In an interview with Bloomberg, Lipavský said this allows Prague to continue the initiative into next year. However, he emphasized that its future will depend heavily on the outcome of the Czech parliamentary elections in October.

Lipavský noted that the initiative has had a significant impact on the battlefield in Ukraine, helping to reduce Russia’s artillery shell advantage from ten-to-one to just two-to-one, a fivefold shift that he described as a “turning point.”

Under the initiative, the Czech Republic will deliver 1.8 million artillery shells to Ukraine this year, including 155mm and 152mm calibers. Eleven countries are contributing to fund the deliveries in 2025.
