Czech firefighters arrive in Greece to help tackle fresh blazes

The Czech ground-based team of firefighters who were sent to help tackle the wildfires that broke out in Greece this week arrived in the northeastern port city of Alexandroupolis on Thursday morning. They are currently waiting for the location of their deployment to be specified, a spokesperson told the Czech News Agency.

Wildfires are continuing to burn in several areas of Greece, including in Parnitha National Park, north of Athens, and near Alexandroupolis, close to the Turkish border, where a fire has been raging for six days.

Firefighters from several European countries, including Czechia and Germany, have sent equipment and personnel to assist Greece in combatting the blazes, which have been plaguing the country since mid-July.
