Czech farmers to join pan-European protests

Czech farmers will join European protests against food imports from outside the European Union on Thursday 27 February. Protest rides of tractors and other equipment will take place across the Czech Republic and at the borders, according to representatives of the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic and the Agricultural Union of the Czech Republic, who are the main organisers. Details of the protest actions will be published on Wednesday.

Farmers are particularly concerned about the trade agreement between the EU and the South American countries of the Mercosur association and duty-free imports from Ukraine, because in the aforementioned countries farmers do not have to comply with the same strict standards as in the EU. They have called on Prime Minister Fiala to promote fair conditions on the European market.
