Czech expert: light pollution rising, some 2 billion crowns wasted each year

Some 2 billion crowns a year is wasted on unnecessary lighting, Czech astronomer Pavel Suchan told a public hearing at the Senate on Monday. Examples of such light pollution include all-night lighting of billboards, parking lots and shopping centres.

Suchan was speaking at a hearing convened by an inter-ministerial working group set up by the Environment Ministry in 2017. Its aim is to find effective ways to reduce light pollution and to ensure legal protection against it.
