Czech counterintelligence chief denies president’s wiretapping claims

The head of the country’s counterintelligence service BIS, Michal Koudelka, has categorically denied President Miloš Zeman’s claim that the secret service had spied on people close to him.

Mr. Koudelka made the statement on Thursday at a meeting of the parliamentary committee that oversees the counterintelligence service, which was called to address the president’s claim.

In reaction to Mr Koudelka’s statement, the Office of the President said the BIS chief has long been breaking the law and misusing counterintelligence resources to gather information for his own use.
