Czech Chamber of Commerce official arrested in Senegal

The chairman of the foreign section of the Czech Chamber of Commerce, Ilja Mazánek, was detained in Senegal last week, Senegalese media reported. Mazánek is being investigated on suspicion of fraudulent practices in connection with his company Transcon, which won a contract to upgrade five regional airports in Senegal in 2019. Jan Sotona, a spokesman for the Czech Chamber of Commerce, told the CTK news agency that the chamber was aware of the matter. The Czech Foreign Ministry also confirmed Mazánek’s arrest, saying the embassy was providing him with consular assistance.
