Czech biathlete Markéta Davidová wins World Championship gold
Czech athlete Markéta Davidová clinched a surprise women’s 15 km individual gold medal at the 2021 Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka, Slovenia, on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old athlete crossed the finish line 27.9 seconds earlier than the Olympic champion Hanna Öberg of Sweden after shooting a perfect 20 for 20 in her two prone and two standing shoots.
Davidová’s is the second Czech to win of this event and the first in 18 years. Her previous best was a World Cup bronze in 2018/19 at the same venue.
