Czech authorities urge expats to register for October general elections

The Czech Ministry of the Interior and the Digital Information Agency will ramp up efforts in the coming days to remind Czechs living abroad to register for October’s parliamentary elections. Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (STAN) told the Czech News Agency that the government is promoting the new vote-by-mail option through social media and by engaging with expatriate associations and Czech communities abroad.

So far, 17,600 Czechs living overseas have registered; an increase of 4,000 since postal voting was introduced. While the figure falls short of expectations, Rakušan emphasized the importance of simply having the option. Interest, he believes, will grow over time. The deadline for overseas voter registration is Sunday, August 24th.
