Czech army’s aid mission in flood-hit regions at an end
The Czech army officially ended its aid mission in the flood-hit regions of Czechia this weekend. Some 5,400 soldiers were deployed in the affected areas of the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions to help municipalities and civilians deal with the damage caused by the September floods, the second worst in the country’s modern history. They helped with evacuating residents, supplying water and humanitarian aid, clearing debris and silt, building makeshift bridges and footbridges and helping to clean and dry out homes ahead of the winter. They were deployed where heavy machinery was needed in the clean-up operations.
