Czech ambassadors meet in Prague for annual foreign policy consultations
Czech ambassadors and heads of missions abroad gathered at Černín Palace in Prague on Monday for their annual foreign policy consultations. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agenda will focus on the consequences of Russia’s war in Ukraine and efforts toward a peaceful resolution, strengthening security and prosperity in Europe, as well as developments in the Middle East and other foreign policy priorities. Ambassadors will also discuss improving consular services, streamlining economic diplomacy, and issues of strategic communication.
In his opening address to the gathering, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský stressed the need for continued Czech support for Ukraine, as it is defending not only itself, but all of Europe against an expansionist Russia. He added that it is also necessary to help Ukraine gain membership in the European Union and NATO once it meets all the required conditions.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala also underscored the threat of Russian expansionism, stressing that even if some form of ceasefire in the war with Ukraine is achieved now, Russia would be ready for further expansion within a few years. He emphasized that Ukraine needs strong security guarantees, with the key guarantee being the strength of its own army.
On Tuesday, President Petr Pavel is scheduled to receive the diplomats at Prague Castle. The ambassadors will also meet with members of the Senate.
