Czech ambassador to Moscow attends military parade on Red Square
Czech ambassador to Moscow Vítězslav Pivoňka attended a traditional military parade on Red Square on Sunday, marking the 76th anniversary of the end of WWII.
His decision has elicited strong reactions from the opposition politicians, who have called it scandalous in view of the recent revelation that that the Russian secret service was involved in the deadly 2014 munitions explosions in Moravia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has confirmed the news to the website Aktuálně.cz, Mr. Pivoňka wanted to pay his respects to the Red Army soldiers, who fought for the liberation of Czechoslovakia.
Mr Pivoňka is not the only EU ambassador who attended the victory celebrations on Red Square. He will be joined, for instance, by the diplomats from Germany, France and Belgium.
