Czech Air Force honours Czechoslovak RAF pilots

A ceremony honouring Czechoslovak pilots who served in the British Royal Air Force during the Second World War was held on Tuesday at the Winged Lion memorial on Prague’s Klárov, marking Battle of Britain Day.

Air Force commander Petr Tománek said their legacy remains relevant today, reminding people that freedom cannot be taken for granted and that security must be protected. Government and diplomatic representatives, soldiers, war veterans and relatives of the pilots attended the ceremony.

More than 2,500 Czechoslovak men and women served in the RAF during the war. They took part in the Battle of Britain, protected Allied convoys and helped liberate Europe.
