Covid reproduction number at its highest since October

Sunday saw 147 new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus detected in the Czech Republic, Health Ministry data shows. Meanwhile, the reproduction number, the average number of people infected by one person with the virus, rose to 1.46 – the highest it has been since October of last year. The Czech News Agency reports that 25 people infected with the coronavirus are currently in hospital, two of whom require intensive care.

Experts believe the main reasons behind the rise in cases are the spread of the so-called “delta” mutation, the gradual easing of restrictions and increased travel.
