Covid numbers still low, but authorities urging caution

The Czech Republic registered 133 news cases of Covid-19 on Saturday which is seven less than on the same day last week. Although the epidemic appears to be under control, the Chief Hygiene Office has called for continued discipline in view of the high incidence of the Delta variant in other European countries, among them neighbouring Germany and Austria.

According to data released by the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Czech Republic is currently the fifth least affected country by the pandemic in the European Union. However experts point out the low number of cases registered could also be due to the lower number of tests undertaken.
